Even as adults, we are often like children getting ourselves wrapped in stories about reality. They give our minds some semblance of comfort and stability, a frame of reference for what life is and how it works. We even use it as a way to relate to others that agree upon the same story of things, and likely push away those that don’t agree with our story. It might be stories of God(s) and ancient masters. It might be stories of this side vs. that side. It might be stories that we read years ago, still leaving their mark on our consciousness, like a computer program running in the background. It could be stories from our parents and the culture we were raised in about life, others, good and evil, and the way of things. They may be so ingrained in us, filtering our reality, that we convince ourselves with much effort that this is the true story.

My experience has been that they are just stories, and while they may carry some wisdom, they may also limit us. They may be wrapped up in separation, fear, and trauma from ages past.

It’s not always easy to break down a story that is deep inside you. Likely you’ve spent years deep in that story, living out its plot.

However, if you are courageous enough and have a bit of imagination ( and I know you do!) you can begin to create a new story for yourself. Within this story, a new role, a new plot, and a new myth! This is the journey of a master to discover their own story. Now, you might find inspiration from past stories you love. Many great stories of our time were inspired by elements of the past, yet brought forth and expanded in a new context. Myth and story become alive, flowing, and unfolding for the times.

In this weaving of our own story we can alchemize our past wounds, find inspiration from those whose who have boldly gone before us, and gather our inner treasures to set forth a new adventure before us.
